TWENTY YEARS OF MEDICAL INTERNET RESEARCH

Starting in 1995, HCI published several softcover books and pamphlets titled the “Medical Internet Director” co-authored by Michael D Gainey, MD, and Milton C. Heuston.  Many copies in different sizes and updates were sold nationwide for several years.

These books were converted in about 2000 into a directory and populated over time with a 1800 site sample of medical, clinical and commercial websites as well as a broad range of healthcare logistic support company websites.

This website, Medical Internet Directory, MID, provides consulting assistance and URL, DNS links to many types of public and professional customers.  It provides simple title and keyword search capabilities for diseases, conditions, and many supporting organizations, including, for example, government, medical associations, and universities. It also provides an analysis of Clusters of Sites suitable for research interests. These clusters include numbers of nationwide sites in each cluster as well as searchable site titles.

Lectures and demonstrations concerning searching the web for medical and healthcare information that can answer the needs of senior citizens were provided on several occasions in several locations and public meetings.

CONTINUING MEDICAL INTERNET RESEARCH

HCI continues its direction toward improving the medical and healthcare search procedures, breadth of topics, and authenticity.  It focuses on new medical-related information in electronics, operations research, statistics, analytics, and the latest development in robotics, biometrics, and artificial intelligence.

CURRENT RESEARCH IN PROCESS

A new website is undergoing research and development in our laboratory called the Kirkpatrick Engine. It is in computer programming and testing Phase One, all eventually aimed at improving public and professionals with easy, quick, and verifiable linkage to alternative medical and healthcare websites, URLs, DMS, and supporting data.
